Lady Hounds enjoy productive trip to Florida, fall to Knox Central in 2A Sectional

Date:

The Corbin Lady Hounds recently traveled to Freeport, FL where they went 2-1 at a holiday tournament before returning to the Bluegrass State and falling to Knox Central, 66-61, this past Saturday in the first round of the Kentucky 2A Sectional Championship Tournament at Bell County High School.

This was Corbin’s second loss to the Lady Panthers this season, also falling in Barbourville back on Dec. 15 by a final score of 74-66.

It was a disappointing way to start off the New Year, but prior to tipoff of Saturday’s game Lady Hounds Head Coach Isaac Wilson commented that he was encouraged by what he saw from his team during the trip to Florida.

“It was a good trip for us,” Wilson said. “I think that we got better, and we figured out a little bit more about this basketball team. We got a little more comfortable with some rotations and things that we’ve been looking at. We are excited to get back to Kentucky and get back in our usual setting, though.”

Wilson said he felt good about things coming into Saturday’s game against Knox Central. As the defending Kentucky 2A Sectional champions, he said that he and the rest of the team and coaching staff were taking great pride in trying to defend that title. At the same time, he said that he also expected it to be a typical, hyper-competitive Hounds versus Panthers matchup, which it most certainly was.

Although things ended up not going Corbin’s way in the end Saturday, Wilson said that there is a lot to be positive about as we enter the second half of the 2025-26 high school basketball season. “We’re consistently playing about 11 kids,” he said. “Not a lot of times are you able to do that. We have a team that is buying in, though, and we do have a lot of pieces. I think that our depth will end up showing when it matters most at the end of the season. We have a lot of kids who are getting a lot of experience.”

So far this season, junior Lydia King is leading the way for the Lady Hounds in the scoring category. Junior Aubree Clemens and senior Addy Wilson are not far behind, with sophomore Kalley Stewart, senior Izzy Walker and eighth grader Lynlee Pietrowski also being regular keys to success, as well as sophomore Cami Price, eighth grader Brylee Frederick and others.

The Corbin girls will be back in action Friday, Jan. 9, when they host Owsley County at 7:30 p.m.
