Local man injured in rollover accident in downtown Corbin

Date:

A Bimble man suffered cuts to his arm Friday afternoon in a rollover accident on Fifth Street in downtown Corbin — apparently caused by a mechanical malfunction in his vehicle.

The accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Friday on Fifth Street between Lee Ave. and Steele Street. Authorities say Jimmy R. Harnage Jr., 37, hit a utility before before his 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier flipped on its top. Neither excessive speed, nor alcohol or drug use are suspected as factors in the crash.

According to Corbin Police Major David Maiden, who investigated the accident, Harnage told police that the steering malfunctioned on his vehicle, causing him to lose control.

Harnage was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center by Whitley County EMS to be treated for cuts to one of his arms.

The roadway was closed for about half an hour until Harnage’s vehicle could be removed from the middle of the roadway.

The Corbin Fire Department also assisted at the scene of the accident.
