Three hurt when Jeep flips on Fifth Street Thursday night

Date:

Three Corbin residents were injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Fifth Street Road Thursday night, and police suspect alcohol and drugs may have played a role in the crash.

Cassandra Mullins, 20; Kevin Lee, 33; and his brother Josh Lee, age unknown, were all three transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center or treated at the scene by ambulance service personnel following the crash, which happened around 8:10 p.m. Kevin Lee was later airlifted by Air Evac Lifeteam from the hospital to a regional medical facility for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not known.

According to Corbin Police Officer Rick Baker, who is investigating the accident, the older model Jeep Cherokee the three were riding in was heading toward town on Fifth Street Road when it likely dropped its tires off the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected and crossed to the opposite lane before the car flipped over and landed on its top near the intersection of Fifth Street Road and Woods Street.

One of the passengers claimed the driver of the vehicle ran from the scene prior to the arrival of police and emergency officials. Police, however, suspect Mullins was actually driving. Baker said all three have been arrested previously for various offenses.

Baker said "probably both" drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash. He did not know if the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts.

The Corbin Fire Department and Whitley County EMS assisted police at the scene.
