Whitley County schools cancel classes until Thursday due to illness

Date:

Officials with the Whitley County School District have cancelled classes until Thursday because of absenteeism caused by increasing illness.

School officials met with leaders at the Whitley County Health Department to determine the extent of the problem and saw fit to cancel classed until Thursday. A notice was sent out via the district’s automated system to parents and employees last Friday regarding today’s closure, but the decision to extend that closure was made today.

According to Whitley County Schools Superintendent Lonnie Anderson, many students are missing school because of an outbreak in influenza coupled with upper respiratory infections and stomach viruses.
