Trooper injured in Corbin crash; one arrested

Date:

A Corbin man was arrested Thursday morning after authorities say he crashed into a Kentucky State Police Trooper’s vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants.

Travis Blevins, 27, was charged with first offense DUI, driving without insurance and failure to wear a seat belt following the car collision on the Master Street overpass in downtown Corbin Thursday morning. According to Kentucky State Police Post 11 Captain Lisa Rudzinski, Blevins was traveling southbound in a 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he crossed the center lane and entered the left turn lane of northbound Master Street and hit a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria driven by KSP Trooper Clyde Wells, 47, of Corbin.

Wells’ vehicle was an unmarked state police cruiser and was stopped in traffic in the left turn lane at the intersection of Master Street and U.S. 25 W at the time of the crash.

Blevins was uninjured.

Wells, who was wearing a seatbelt, was injured but was treated at Baptist Regional Medical Center and released Thursday.

The accident was reported to police at about 11:09 a.m.  Corbin police, Kentucky State Police and members of the Corbin Fire Department all responded to the scene. Blevins was arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

The crash is being investigated by Post 11 Detecive Mike Bowling.
