Fire damages apartment in Lily Monday morning

Date:

An apartment on Davenport Lane in Lily was damaged by fire Monday morning.

Lily and West Knox firefighters were called to the scene off of Robinson Creek Road at 9:48 a.m.

Lily Fire Chief Paul Collins said when firefighters arrived smoke was coming out of the door.

One witness said smoke was also rolling out off the roof.

A woman and her small child were inside the apartment at the time.

Collins said the woman grabbed the child and ran out the door.

“She said she heard popping and cracking sounds coming from the kitchen near the stove and refrigerator,” Collins said.

Firefighters had the blaze knocked down within a few minutes, containing the damage to the kitchen area.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Collins said there is nothing that leads firefighters to suspect arson.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County also responded to the scene.
