Moonbow EggFest draws 550 people, 40 cooks to Corbin

Date:

Approximately 500 people and 40 cooks turned out Saturday for the 2018 Moonbow EggFest in Corbin.

Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Kriebel said while the number of cooks was up, the number of patrons was down by approximately 100.

“We were competing with UK football,” Kriebel said.

“The chicken festival was going on as well in London.”

Kriebel said the participating cooks showed the versatility of the namesake grill, cooking everything from stuffed pork tenderloin, to desserts, to casseroles.

“Some of the best were the morning casseroles,” Kriebel said explaining that one in particular was a sausage and gravy biscuit casserole.

Kriebel said the event has reached a good size in terms of participants as it permits the patrons to meet with and spend an extended period of time speaking with the cooks.

“They can engage in quality conversation with the patrons and share what they do,” Kriebel said. “The patrons are able to enjoy the event and aren’t packed in there.”

As to what the 2019 event may include, Kriebel said she would like to add some additional celebrity chefs.

“Chef and the Fatman will definitely be back in 2019,” Kriebel said explaining they do their live cooking show and podcast during which they rave about their experience in Corbin.

In addition, organizers may look to change the weekend so the event is not competing with other area events.

We have traditionally held it in September and would like to continue to do so,” Kriebel said. “At the same time, we want people to be able to enjoy all of the things that the region has to offer.”
