McCreary County man charged with rape being held in Whitley County Jail

A McCreary County man indicted in a 2020 rape is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Dustin T. Watkins, 31, of Whitley City, was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center Wednesday following his arrest earlier in the day in Lexington on the warrant charging him with first-degree rape.

At the time of his arrest, Watkins was working as a police officer at Transylvania University.

According to Kentucky State Police, Trooper Dackery Larkey began the investigation in 2020 and recently presented the case to the McCreary County Grand Jury, which resulted in the indictment and a warrant being issued for Watkins’ arrest.
