Corbin man arrested for theft

A Corbin man is facing a theft charge following an investigation into a reported vehicle break-in.

On Friday, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Smith received a complaint about a vehicle being broken into at the Cracker Barrell restaurant, which is located in the north Corbin portion of Laurel County, and the perpetrator traveling into Knox County, according to a sheriff’s department release.

After contacting the owner of the vehicle, Smith identified and located the suspect, Terry McFarland, at a residence on Moore Hill Avenue, the release stated.

During the theft a purse containing cash and other items was taken in addition to some additional property. Smith recovered the purse and cash and found additional stolen property in Laurel County, according to the release.

Smith arrested McFarland, 43, charging him with theft by unlawful taking or disposition over $500.

McFarland was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center, but has since been released from custody.
