The newly added Future Farmers of America (FFA) program at Williamsburg Independent School had a successful first appearance at the Kentucky River regional competition this past week.
The competition consisted of multiple categories of public speaking along with a talent contest.
The Williamsburg FFA program sent 20 students to participate in these events, and came home with three regional winners and two runner-up finishes.
These students will advance to the state competition in June.
In the public speaking competition, Zaden Housekeeper won superior first in the swine category, Dawson Stephens won superior first in the poultry category, and Katelyn Moses won superior first in the floral category. Madison Stephens took second in the beef category, and Lylah Mattingly took second in the AIC Exam category.
The Williamsburg program also received several other honorable mentions, including: Emily Cooper, small animal; Jason Flannery, goat and sheep; Lylah Mattingly, fruit and veggie; Ethan Moses, dairy; Gabriel Prewitt, greenhouse; and Braeleigh McCullah and Creed Isaiah Sizemore, Ag mechanics.
The following students received an “excellent” rating in the talent competition, including: Taylor Ballew, Giovanna Ballew, Kianna Ballew, Zoe Dibble, Zaden Housekeeper, Lylah Mattingly, Noble Mattingly, Isabelle Moses, Jenna Petrey, Dawson Stephens and Trevor Wyatt.
