Update: Funeral service set for Thursday for W’burg man killed in Lincoln County crash

Date:

A Saturday morning traffic crash in Lincoln County claimed the life of a Whitley County man.

Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum pronounced Donnie Rains, 40, of Williamsburg, dead at the scene, according to multiple published reports and a Kentucky State Police release from the Richmond Post.

Kentucky State Police report that the crash happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. on John Sims Highway.

State police determined through their investigation that a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was driven by Rains, was traveling north when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrex, which was driven by Brett Smith, 46, of Crab Orchard, according to published reports and the Kentucky State Police release.

Smith was taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Tyler Holt is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by other KSP personnel, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Lincoln County EMS, Lincoln County Fire Department and Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.

Rains is survived by his wife, Crystal Rains, and several other relatives.

His visitation will be from 6 – 9 p.m. Wednesday (April 26), at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (April 27) at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Wells officiating.

Rains will be laid to rest in Moose Mountain Cemetery on Moose Mountain in Williamsburg.
