Investigators say arson is suspected in a fire that destroyed a home on 23rd Street in Corbin early Monday morning.
Corbin firefighters were called to the scene at 376 23rd Street at 4:13 a.m.
According to the report, the call came in when CSX Railroad workers reported seeing a glow in the sky coming from the area near Whayne Supply Company.
“Before we got there we could see it glowing,” firefighters stated in the report, adding that when the first units arrived, the house was fully involved and the roof had collapsed.
Firefighters were on scene for more than two hours. With the structure essentially destroyed, their primary focus became ensuring the fire did not spread to the nearby woods.
Corbin Fire Chief Barry McDonald said the home was partially occupied. One occupant was in the process of moving out while another person moved in.
Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $66,000.
McDonald said no cause was immediately apparent. Because of the circumstances, Corbin police were called in to photograph the scene.
