All coverage area schools to be represented at 2024 state cross country championships

After regional competition at Cave Lake Park in Wayne County over the weekend, all four coverage area high schools will be sending runners to compete in this year’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Cross Country Championships.

The Corbin girls traveled to Wayne County on Saturday and gave a dominant performance in the Class 2A, Region 5 championship race, with all team members finishing in the top 20 to give the Lady Hounds their latest regional championship trophy.

From Corbin:

  • Emma Massengill, regional champion in 20:46.74
  • Hadley Elmore, region runner-up in 21:11.46
  • Jaycee Frye, seventh place in 22:32.08
  • Lynlee Flynn, 13th place in 23:28.67
  • Addison Owens, 15th place in 23:39.95
  • Mallory Bradshaw, 17th place in 23:59.55
  • Alex Herren, 19th place in 24:26.24

As regional champions, all Corbin girls will advance to this weekend’s Class 2A state championships.

The Corbin boys are also headed to state along with one runner from Whitley County. As a team, the Redhounds finished third in the region with three runners finishing in the top 25.

From Corbin:

  • Ethan Slone, third place in 17:27.78
  • Kobe Dixon, sixth place in 18:19.14
  • Ben Teague, 11th place in 18:37.15
  • Ethan Lester, Kaleb Terrell, Isaiah Curry and Creed Davies finished in 31st, 32nd, 33rd and 41st places, respectively.

From Whitley County:

  • Tanner Logan, 23rd place in 19:21.73

A host of Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats and one Williamsburg Lady Jacket qualified for state competition in the Class A ranks over the weekend. Qualifiers from the Class A, Region 6 championship race include…

From Williamsburg:

  • Tatum Croley, fourth place in 21:59.21

From Lynn Camp:

  • Lauren Partin, eighth place in 22:36.57
  • Isabelle Cuz, 22nd place in 24:45.54
  • Madison Weymers, 24th place in 25:18.26
  • Lillian Henize, Cambree Prewitt, Sadie Melton and Katie Mills finished in 28th, 30th, 32nd and 34th places, respectively.

Finally, both Lynn Camp and Williamsburg will send a single boys competitor to run in this year’s Class A state championship race. Wildcat Ethan Curry qualified for state by finishing in 15th place at regionals with a time of 19:47.48. Meanwhile, Yellow Jacket Zaden Housekeeper finished in tenth place with a time of 19:05.39.

The 2024 KHSAA State Cross Country Championships are scheduled to take place this Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. For a complete list of competitors and more information on the event, visit www.khsaa.org.
