Baptist Health awards scholarships to healthcare students in Tri County area

Each year, the medical staff at Baptist Health Corbin awards scholarships to recognize and support the academic achievements of healthcare students.

Abigail Byrnes, MD, Interim Chief Medical Officer, emphasized the importance of these scholarships, stating, “These scholarships are awarded to students from the Tri County area to keep our greatest resources close to home.”

Angelina Foster, President of Baptist Health Corbin, added, “Supporting local talent in healthcare education is a vital part of our commitment to the community’s well-being.”

Recipients must be from the Tri County area and currently enrolled in a healthcare-related degree program. This year, a total of 15 scholarships were awarded, distributed across various disciplines: five in medicine, five in nursing, two in pharmacy, one in physical therapy, one in licensed clinical social work, and one in speech/language pathology.

Additionally, the medical staff and Baptist Health Corbin funded four special scholarships for medical students:

  • Sarah Gibbs received the annual $2,750 Rod Weisert Memorial Scholarship.
  • John Lowe received the annual $2,750 Mohammad Jawed Memorial Scholarship.
  • Hannah Baker received the annual $2,750 Truman Perry Memorial Scholarship.
  • Hollie Clifton Bishop received the annual $2,750 Danny Struck Memorial Scholarship.

The 2025 recipients of the $2,000 Medical Staff Academic Scholarships, include: Arika Davenport, Hannah Hartzell, Madeline Lewis, Emma Jarboe, Whitney McDaniel, Haylee Stancil, Mary Chasity Snyder, Taylor Vaughn, Karalee Hale, Keira Monhollen and Josie McHargue.

Baptist Health Corbin is a 273-bed, acute care facility providing a wide variety of healthcare services to residents of Whitley, Knox, Laurel, Bell, Clay, Harlan and McCreary counties in Kentucky and Campbell County in Tennessee.
