The Corbin and Williamsburg independent boards of education will each be getting a new face next year, and the battle lines are now set for the November General Election with the passage of the Aug. 9 filing deadline.
Incumbent Williamsburg board member Kim Broome White opted not to run for re-election and three people are vying for two seats on the board. Incumbent Allan Steely has filed to run for re-election in addition to Ed McGrath and Jason Caddell.
On the Corbin school board, Angela Morris opted not to run for re-election. There are three seats up for election on the board.
Incumbents Todd Childers and Stephen Mulberry have filed in addition to newcomer Keith Edward Gibson.
All three incumbents on the Whitley County Board of Education have filed to run for re-election, including: J.E. Jones, Malorie Cooper and Brenda K. Hill.
The Corbin City Commission and Williamsburg City Council will both be seeing contested races this fall.
Four seats are up for election on the Corbin City Commission with incumbents Ed Tye and Freddie Bruce Hodge all seeking election along with David Grigsby Hart, Trent Knuckles, Bruce Rains, Andrew Pennington and Alex Onkst.
Incumbent Suzie Barton Razmus opted not to pursue re-election several months ago, and incumbent Joe Shelton announced Monday that he had decided to withdraw from the race.
All six Williamsburg City Council members are running seeking re-election, including Erica Broome Harris, Loren Connell, Mary Ann Renfro Stanfill, Richard Foley, Patty Faulkner and Laurel Jeffries West. They are being challenged by first time candidate Adam S. Sulfridge.
Four candidates are running for four seats on the Whitley County Soil Conservation District Board, including: Jim. D. Jones, Joann Siler, Jackie R. Smith and Lee Edd Sears.
The other local race on the November ballot is the battle for 82nd Representative with Republican Regina Bunch squaring off against William Conn.
