As part of its ongoing commitment to providing a safe and healing environment, Baptist Health Corbin will install a weapons detection system at its emergency department entrance, effective Monday, Dec. 1, 2025.
“Our patients and their families trust us not only with their health, but with their sense of security when they walk through our doors,” said Baptist Health Corbin President Angelia Foster. “This new technology is another way we can protect that trust — ensuring our team can stay focused on exceptional care while our patients can focus fully on healing.”
The new system is designed to operate seamlessly, requiring no removal of bags or personal items upon initial screening. Visitors and patients simply walk through the detection area, which identifies weapons while avoiding false detections of everyday items, such as keys, phones and wallets.
Foster emphasized that safety is a shared responsibility, saying, “We all play a part in keeping our hospital a place of comfort and safety. If you ever see something concerning, please let our security team or any staff member know right away. Together, we can keep Baptist Health Corbin a safe haven for everyone who comes here.”
All weapons, including firearms and bladed items, are strictly prohibited at Baptist Health Corbin. Bags are subject to search as part of the hospital’s commitment to upholding a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Patients and visitors are asked not to bring prohibited items to the hospital. It is also recommended that weapons and valuables not be left in plain sight in vehicles to help prevent theft.
