She was born on September 10, 1990 in Corbin, to James Allen Carter and Rebecca Joie Lawson. She is survived by two children, Brianna Leigh Jones and Joseph Lee Jones of Rockholds; father, James Allen Carter of Rockholds; mother, Rebecca Joie Carter of Woodbine; sister, Jamie Michelle Carter of Rockholds; brother, Little Bill Monhollen of Woodbine; grandparents, James Martin Carter of Rockholds and Doris Jean Hollins of Corbin; several aunts and uncles, and a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. Betty McIntosh, 83, of West 12th Street, Williamsburg, departed this life on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Laurel Heights Nursing Home in London. She was born on September 22, 1933 in Hazard, to the late William Combs and Nannie (Risen) Combs. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sherman McIntosh; grandson, Charlie McIntosh; and several brothers and sisters. Lee “Darrell” Jones, 71, passed away on September 1, 2017.  He was born on February 23, 1946, in Keavy. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Mabel Jones; his grandson, Eric Valentine; and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ruth Jones; children, Teral (Sherri Theberge) Jones, Teresa (Lonnie) McMillan, and Sandy Valentine; and three grandchildren. A graveside service was held Friday, September 8, at W.H. Parman Cemetery in Corbin. Military rites were conducted by the D.A.V. Chapter 158. Coy Leroy Miller, 75,of Corbin passed away on Friday September 1, 2017 at his home. He was retired engineer from L&N and CSX railroad and was the owner operator of C.L.Miller Pools in Corbin for many years.  Leroy was a US Army Veteran,  a member of the Hugh Harris Lodge No. 938 F.& A.M, and he was a Shriner.  He was also a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Gary Winkle, 57 of Corbin, passed away on Sunday August 27, 2017 at his home. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday September 6, at Pine Hill Cemetery. Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marie Scalf Smith, 70, the wife of Pearl Smith of McClure Bridge Road, Lily, passed away on Saturday morning at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Laurel Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Eugene Gentry and Bro. Marty Nolan officiating. Burial followed in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Lily.

John G. "Jerry" Hollifield, 82, of Corbin, passed away Saturday morning at Baptist Health Corbin. He was born July 31, 1935, in Barbourville, to Ruby Hollifield George and Denver Hollifield, who preceded him in death. For over 50 years, Jerry was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where he was a Vestry member. With a degree in English from Union College, Jerry decided to pursue a career in banking. Working every position, serving as Director and Member of the Board of Directors of Corbin Deposit Bank/Cumberland Valley Bank for over 40 years, he retired after 42 years. Talmadge Lee Russell, 85, passed away Thursday, August 31, at Baptist Health Corbin. Born January 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Charlie and Deema Russell. He was a 50-year member of the Tri-County Baptist Church in West Chester, OH. In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his two sons: Michael D. Russell and Ronnie L. Bobbie Ann Herren, 86, of Lexington, formerly of Corbin, passed away on Thursday August 31, 2017 at Baptist Health in Lexington. Born in Corbin, she was a retired cashier with the former IGA in Corbin and was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Helton and Edna Lockhart Helton; and by a son, Harold Edward Sears.
