(OpEd By Ben Chandler, Kentucky State Board of Elections Chairman)
It has been my great honor to serve as the Chairman of the Kentucky State Board of Elections (SBE) over the past year. While it has been a trying year, fraught with difficult times and equally difficult decisions, it is also a year that has provided opportunities to show the benefits of modernizing the Commonwealth's election systems while temporarily changing the method of its elections to account for the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. I write this letter to both recognize those responsible for its unqualified success and to discuss how we move forward in modernizing Kentucky’s elections on a...
(Letter to the Editor By Jerry White, Corbin)
I am just one man, in one county, in one state. But I think I represent the feelings of more than 70 million Americans when I say America lacks faith. No, this is not about religion, though one could write about that as well. We lack faith in so many of our institutions which are fundamental to a vibrant and functioning democracy. Who do I believe? I question ever news story today; wondering is it fact or is it agenda driven? I question why they will or WILL NOT cover a certain story. I question our Covid-19 numbers. Are they accurate or...

On behalf of the Colonel Sanders Half Marathon Planning Committee, we would like to acknowledge both the sponsors and participants of the Inaugural Colonel Sanders Half Marathon.
On November 14, 2020 199 attended and finished the race. 35 percent of the runners were from out of the state, ranging from MS, GA, CA, AL, IN and Ontario, Canada.
Several of the runners dressed up in costume, and many more had their own personal stories as to why they were running the race.
This was a boots on the ground initiative, and truly a multi county, city and community wide effort. None of this would have been possible without the support of our...
This Saturday, November 14, I was so proud to call myself a Corbinite!
The inaugural Colonel Sanders half marathon was absolutely a perfect success. They even got the weather right.
Significant kudos to Maggy Kriebel and her outstanding planning team. A million thanks to all the city workers, police, and fire personnel who sacrificed the opening day of deer season to keep us safe.
And I am so grateful to all my fellow Corbin residents who sat outside under blankets to cheer all the runners on. You all are the best.

The Kentucky Legislature will be commencing its annual session in January 2021. Our State Republican Representative, Regina Huff, will be serving as the Chairperson of the House Education Committee.
The citizens of her District and the citizens of Kentucky need to know what action she plans to take and what legislation she intends to introduce or sponsor through her Committee to the floor of the House of Representatives and onto the Kentucky Senate to bring the Commonwealth of Kentucky from the bottom third in education in the United States to the top third.
In the years she has served as State Representative...

Events like the US 25 Yard Sale don’t have coffers full of money. Most don’t have any funding at all, as they are organized by volunteers. We owe many folks in each community a big “Thank You” for each event held.
Thanks goes out to Corbin Tourism, London/Laurel County Tourism, Rockcastle Tourism, Berea Tourism, Richmond Tourism, Georgetown/Scott County Tourism, and Grant County Tourism for posting us on the events calendars, and in social media and fielding calls.
We get a lot of help from the local newspapers, so a big thanks goes out to the Corbin News Journal, The London Sentinel Echo, The...

I read with great interest the reply to a recent Letter to the Editor that I had submitted. I believe it is important to have well-written replies, and to hear the other side of the narrative.
I still maintain my original opinion, and my facts, and opine that a commissioner with a financial interest in the outcome of a vote should abstain from that vote to preserve his independence and avoid the appearance of impropriety.

To say that COVID-19 is an inconvenience is quite an understatement, but I’ve had this feeling that perhaps this is a wake-up call. We’ve all become accustomed to doing what we want, when we want.
I wish there was a community or statewide prayer time set aside each week where we all took part wherever we were. Please don’t misunderstand me - God gave us wisdom, and certainly we should be doing all that we can to combat this virus. But I think about Gideon in the book of Judges when he had to fight the Midianites. The Lord told him to...
