The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets look to be in very good shape coming into the 2022 season, with several of their big playmakers from their previous campaign returning to the lineup. Quarterback Sydney Bowen will be returning for his senior season this fall after a fantastic junior year that saw him throw for well over 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. Taylor and his brother, Trey, lived in Corbin for several years as children before moving to Louisiana. When the Cincinnati Bengals take the field Sunday in Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, Corbin native Trent Taylor will take the field with them. Taylor, who caught the two-point conversion in the AFC Championship game against Kansas City that tied the game in the third quarter, is the son of Greg Taylor who played in the Corbin Redhounds’ state football championship team in 1980. After four seasons of tutelage at Corbin High School under Justin Haddix and Tom Greer, Dustin Buckner is taking over as the head football coach at rival Knox Central High School. Buckner, who had served as an assistant at Corbin since January 2018, was announced as the new head coach of the Panthers on Monday. “After our interview committee reviewed multiple applications and conducted several interviews, Coach Buckner was the stand-out for what we expect of the Panther football program,” said Jeff Canady, Athletic Director at Knox Central. Corbin Football’s 2022 schedule is now complete as the Redhounds will face defending Class A champion Pikeville to open the season in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic. Corbin Football Coach Tom Greer said the contract was signed Monday to have the Panthers come to Campbell Field for the game on Aug. 19. “It is a great opportunity for us to go up against the defending state champions,” Greer said of facing Pikeville noting it will improve the Redhounds’ RPI. The Panthers finished the season with a 14-2 record that included playoff wins over Phelps, Hazard, Williamsburg, Raceland and Russellville. Corbin High School senior football standout Treyveon Longmire may not be suiting up for the University of Kentucky next fall. Longmire, who had committed to play for Coach Mark Stoops back in the spring, announced on his Twitter page that he would be looking at other schools. “After talking to my family, I am going to re-open my recruitment and explore all my options,” Longmire wrote Friday afternoon hashtagging it with #GODSPLAN. Football season came to a sudden end Friday night as Corbin was eliminated from the Class 4A playoffs and Williamsburg was knocked out of the Class A playoffs. Corbin Redhounds The Corbin Redhounds hopes for a perfect season and another state title ended Friday night with a loss to the Johnson Central Golden Eagles, 34-13. The Corbin Middle School Eighth Grade Football Team is now the Division 2 State Champion for the second year in a row. Corbin defeated Paducah 29-6 during a game late Saturday afternoon at East Jessamine High School. “I can’t say enough about our kids and our coaching staff, and what a tremendous job they have done. The Corbin Redhounds Eighth Grade Football Team won their second consecutive division two state championship during a game late Saturday afternoon against the Paducah Middle School. This is actually the Redhounds third eighth grade state title in five years having also won the title in 2017. Kudos to head coach Brent Jackson and his staff.
