Corbin Boys Soccer to play for 13th Region title Monday night

The Corbin Redhounds Soccer team will play for the 13th Region title tonight at Union College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Redhounds defeated Barbourville Sunday night, 10-0 in the first round of the 13th Region Tournament Sunday night to advance to the title game. Corbin will face 49th District runner-up North Laurel in tonight’s championship game. Corbin defeated North Laurel on Wednesday for the district title, 5-0.

Corbin Soccer picks up third win against Madison Southern

The Corbin Redhounds Boys’ Soccer team improved remained undefeated on the season following a 1-0 win Saturday against Madison Southern. Chesney Jacobs had the lone goal for the Redhounds. Jonathan Jackson had the shutout in goal for Corbin. The Redhounds were scheduled to play South Laurel Tuesday night in a game that had not yet been completed as of press time. The Redhounds were ahead 7-0 at halftime. Corbin will be back at home Saturday to face Lexington Catholic. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Corbin boys’, Whitley girls’ soccer teams start season 2-0

The Corbin Redhounds have not missed a beat as they try to recapture the magic of the historic 2020 boys’ soccer season, winning the first two matches by a combined score of 11-4. Coach Armando Cima’s squad defeated Perry County Central, 8-2 last Tuesday, and then picked up a 3-2 win over Lexington Bryan Station in the FCPS Soccer Showcase on Saturday. Chesney Jacobs, Gabe Cima and Adrian Pataki each chipped in a goal in Saturday’s victory. The Redhounds will be looking to keep the early streak alive at home over the next week. Indoor soccer could give smaller schools a way to field teams

Every day I am learning something new about high school sports in the area. When I planned for this week’s sports page to feature soccer previews, I planned on how to cover eight teams, the boys and girls’ teams from Corbin, Lynn Camp, Whitley County and Williamsburg. Then I learned that neither Lynn Camp nor Williamsburg have either soccer team. As two of the smaller schools in the area, it is understandable why not. Adding full-sized soccer teams, which require a minimum of 11 players, would impact the football programs on the boys’ side and the volleyball program on the girls’ side, not to mention the cross country teams. The Corbin Lady Redhounds Soccer team will be looking to take the next step in 2021, coming off a 7-6-1 season that ended with a loss to North laurel in the 13th Region Championship game. High school soccer teams are scheduled to kick off the 2021 season next week. On the boys’ side, Corbin will be looking to follow up on an historic 2020 that saw the Redhounds go 13-2-1 while advancing to the state final four. “Things change from one season to the next,” said Coach Armando Cima. “We have, over time set a level of expectation. Alumni play first game under Whitley Co. soccer field lights

For the first time in the history of its program, the Whitley County School District soccer fields now have lights. The lights were turned on last Friday during a field lighting ceremony. “Just a couple years ago, they spoke to me about different facility needs, and I said, ‘One of the biggest - or the number one - need, facility-wise athletically, was to put lights on our soccer field.’ It is going to increase the number of kids that are going to be participating. For the first time in the program’s history, Whitley County’s boys and girls soccer teams will play their home games under the lights as fixtures have been installed at the field on U.S. 25W. Whitley County has previously been precluded from hosting the 13th Region Tournaments because the field did not have lights.

Corbin Redhounds win 13th Region soccer title Tuesday

After a 6-0 victory over the South Laurel Cardinals Tuesday night, the Corbin Redhounds boys soccer team are your 2020 13th Region champions. The regional championship win improves the soccer Hounds to 11-1-1 on the year, and also advances them to state tournament competition. This year's KHSAA state tourney will get underway this Saturday, Oct. 24. On that day, Corbin will play the champions out of Region 15 in the semi-state round of play. Should they advance, they will play the champions of either Region 16 or Region 14 in the quarterfinal round on Monday, Oct. 26.
