Corbin student one of 83 Gatton Academy Class of 2025 graduates

Corbin High School student Daniel Thelen was one of 83 students, who graduated from The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science on May 10. Thelen was also named a “Community Scholar.” These graduates are recognized for completing two semesters of research with a research outcome that is presented to a professional audience after being accepted through a vetted process or four semesters of participation in STEM+, and documenting 60 hours of service. Established in 2007, The Gatton Academy is Kentucky’s first residential two-year program for gifted and talented juniors and seniors. 82-year-old arrested for arson in Thursday night blaze

(Story by Mark White and Timothy Wyatt) An 82-year-old Williamsburg man has been arrested and charged with arson in connection with a June 26 structure fire. Williamsburg Police Officer Jonas Saunders served Berry Lynn Perry, also known as LB Perry, with an arrest warrant at his Stringtown Road residence charging him with first-degree arson at 8:18 p.m. Monday. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, Perry was being held in the Whitley County Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond, according to the detention center’s website. Dianna Lynn Anderson Winger, age 74, of Gilman, WI, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Oakbrook Health and Rehabilitation in Thorp, WI. She was born May 25, 1951 to the late James Albert and Sudie Lee Osborne Anderson. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a sibling, Gary Anderson. Free UNITE Shoot Hoops Not Drugs basketball clinic coming to WCHS Tuesday (June 17)

Kathy Walczak, representing the Tri-County Elks Club, recently presented a donation to sponsor the Operation UNITE Shoot Hoops Not Drugs Summer Program. There are seven Shoot Hoops clinics in eastern Kentucky. Former University of Kentucky point guard and four-time All-SEC Academic Team member Jarrod Polson conducts the camps. The closest one will be on Tuesday (June 17) at Whitley County High School. All of the camps will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. All attendees will receive a free meal, a free basketball, a free t-shirt and a chance to win a basketball goal.
