Thanks to the efforts of a couple of local companies, there will be more fruit trees in Corbin’s future and many of those are getting planted in low-income areas.
Corbin Parks and Recreation Director Jacob Roan said that Justin Cloud with CC&M and Brandon Pratt with Pratt Landscaping are donating and planting about 50 fruit trees in town, most of which will probably be apple trees.
“They are going to get started around Rotary Park and the Creek Walk and some places, then move onto some nearby public housing,” Roan told the Corbin City Commission during its monthly meeting Monday.
“This will encourage families to actually pick fruit from the trees this fall. There is some cool things with that as far as maybe some educational programming with families. I just want to thank them again for working with us to donate that.”
Roan said that one of the goals of the project is to place the trees in low income areas where people are in the most need.
Roan said that they looked at the locations about two weeks ago.
The trees will probably be planted soon after this latest cold spell ends.
Corbin City Commissioner Allison Moore praised the effort.
“We are beyond grateful for Justin Cloud and Brandon Pratt, who not only envisioned this amazing project and brought it to the city’s attention, but also donated their time and resources through CC&M and Pratt’s Landscaping to make it a reality,” Moore said.
“Their generosity and commitment are planting more than just fruit trees – they are planting a legacy of growth, beauty and sustainability that will benefit our community for years to come.”
