Corbin firefighters battle boat fire

Date:

Boat on fire 3xMiles from the nearest navigable body of water, Corbin firefighters were called to battle a boat fire last Thursday morning

Corbin Fire Lieutenant Chad Jackson said firefighters were called to the parking lot of the former Basil’s Restaurant on Beatty Ave. about 4:45 a.m.

Jackson said the bass boat, valued at $15,000, was fully involved in flames.

“A gas tank on the boat was full,” Jackson said. “It was melted by the fire and gas poured out and spread across the deck.”

Jackson said firefighters were hampered in their efforts by the gas, which continued to feed the fire.

“The gas kept flaring back up,” Jackson said. “We ended up using a dry chemical extinguisher and a bucket of foam.”

In addition to the boat, Jackson said the fire damaged the nearby building, melting part of the aluminum siding.

No one was injured in the fire.

West Knox firefighters provided support with a water tanker.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
