Corbin firefighters arrived on the scene of a house fire Tuesday morning expecting the worst-case scenario after dispatchers informed them that someone might be trapped inside.
Firefighters received the call at approximately 7:10 a.m. reporting that the home at 112 16th Street was on fire and was fully involved.
“It was coming out of everywhere,” said Corbin Fire Chief Barry McDonald of the fire.
Firefighters had the flames knocked down within five minutes and made entry through the front and side doors to ensure no one was inside.
Donald Mullis, the homeowner, informed them that if his roommate had been inside, he would have been in the front room on the couch.
As firefighters searched the living room area, they found nothing to indicate the individual was inside.
Mullis said he was asleep in a back room and woke up to find the home full of smoke. He was able to escape the home through the back.
“In the span of a couple of hours I have become homeless,” Mullis said.
Firefighters were on scene until approximately 9 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
