Roger Ayers
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies say Roger W. Ayers was allegedly peaking through a window of a home on Byrley Road in north Corbin. He was taken to the Whitley County Detention Center following his arrest Sunday, and is being held without bond, is that he is facing more serious charges in Whitley County. Ayers, 59, of Corbin, was arrested Sunday afternoon on one count of third-degree criminal trespassing.
According to Laurel County Sheriff’s Public Affairs Officer Gilbert Acciardo, Deputy Milton Storm was called to the scene off of Ky. 1223 about 3:30 p.m. after one of the residents at the house noticed Ayers peeking into the home.
Ayers ran off, but Acciardo said witnesses gave Storm a description and was able to point out the direction in which he fled.
"He didn’t pick that house because of who was inside," Acciardo said of the home in which Ayers was allegedly peeking. "It was random."
Storm was unable to find the suspect. However, within the hour, a neighbor found him and called Storm to return.
Acciardo said the suspect, later identified as Ayers, was further down Byrley Road.
Storm reported that Ayers denied peeking in the windows at the house, explaining that he had sat down to rest outside the home.
Acciardo said he did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
"If he had been, Deputy Storms would have charged him with it," Acciardo said.
In checking Ayers’ background, deputies learned he had nine outstanding warrants in Whitley County.
The charges include: Three counts of failure to appear, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of contempt of court, and one count each of operating a motor vehicle on suspended or revoked operator’s license, menacing, contempt of court, falsely reporting an incident and third-degree criminal trespassing.
