Corbin man suspected of shooting father found dead Monday

Date:

Eric Taylor

A Corbin man who was a person of interest in a shooting last week has been found dead in Knox County.

Corbin Police Major Rob Jones, the department’s public affairs officer, said Eric Taylor died as the result of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Hunters called the Knox County Sheriff’s Department about 10:45 p.m. Sunday after finding his body in the Gilliam Hill area of U.S. 25E, about 100 yards down an abandoned logging road.

Knox County Coroner Mike Belvins ruled the shooting a suicide.

“We don’t suspect foul play at all,” said Knox County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Derek Eubanks.

Jones said Taylor was in the same 1997 Jeep truck in which he fled Gulf Trailer Park off of Cumberland Falls Hwy. after reportedly shooting his father, William Taylor, once in the side last Wednesday.

“We can’t tell if it is the same gun that he used to shoot his dad,” Jones said of the gun found with Eric Taylor.

William Taylor is recovering from the shooting after undergoing surgery at Baptist Health Corbin. He has been removed from a ventilator and has been abled to speak with police.

Jones said the cold temperatures have made it impossible for investigators to determine when Eric Taylor died.
