Corbin woman dies after crash with drunk driver

A Corbin woman is dead, and a Williamsburg man is fighting for his life after being hit head on by a drunk driver in Georgia on Christmas Eve.
Marvin Keith Smith, 50, of Williamsburg, is in critical condition at the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Smith’s passenger, Mammie Harp, 43, of Corbin, was pronounced dead shortly after the accident.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Jorge Ballesteros, 21, of Cookville, Tenn., was travelling north in the southbound lane when his 1996 Ford Taurus hit the 1993 Ford Explorer that Smith was driving head-on.
The accident happened about 6 a.m. about half a mile north of the Rocky Face Exit, Exit 336, in Dalton, Ga.
Ballesteros died in the accident, and police say he was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol. The results of blood alcohol tests are pending, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
All three people had to be extricated from the vehicles. Smith was flown by Life Force helicopter to the Erlanger Medical Center after suffering numerous serious injuries in the crash.
Smith is a City of Williamsburg Sanitation Department employee.
