Fire causes minor damage to building one at Aisin plant

Date:

Lily Fire Chief Paul Collins said his department was paged out just after 6 p.m.

“The majority of the fire was put out by the suppression system by the time we arrived on scene,” Collins said.

Firefighters cut multiple holes in the roof to get at the smoldering insulation.

Bush, Campground, West Knox, London City and Laurel County fire departments were called to provide manpower as firefighters continued salvage and overhaul operation.

Laurel County Department of Public Safety and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County also responded to the scene.

Collins emphasized that the fire was in the area of building one where molten aluminum is housed, but the fire did not come into contact with anything that could prove to be potentially toxic to the community.

Several neighbors said they did not see or hear anything and were unaware there had been a fire at the plant.

There were no injuries in the blaze.

Aisin Automotive Casting manufactures a variety of automotive parts, including water pumps and oil pumps.

The plant was opened in 1996 and employees 730 people.
