Former Corbin East Elementary building and property sold at auction

Date:

The former East Ward School building on Master Street in Corbin was sold at auction Friday, but was divided into two tracts.

Dora Mobley, the executive director of the Corbin Housing Authority, purchased the building and 1.79 acres of property for 172,000.

"We are going to turn it into affordable housing," Mobley said, estimating that with renovations and a possible addition, it could be transformed into 30 two-bedroom apartments.

The second tract, a .97-acre lot, was sold to a man for $145,000. The man declined to give his name, but said that he did not know what he was going to do with the property.
