Glen Alan Onkst, former City Commissioner and business owner, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the age of 61.

Glen Alan Onkst began his career working at his family’s business “Piggly Wiggly” in Corbin, then went on and passionately pursued many careers, including working for the  Corbin Police Dept., Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, and owning his own business, “Freshmart Food Mart.”

He also served for many years on the Corbin Tourism Committee, Varsity Club, and refereed area football games for over 30 years with his loving football crew.

Loved ones that preceded him and cleared the path for Alan were his infant daughter Sarah Jordan, his parents William and Kathleen Onkst, and brother Billy Onkst.

He leaves behind one daughter Katherine Elizabeth Onkst whom he loved and cherished and was his heart and joy; brother Michael Onkst; many beloved nieces and nephews; two aunts Joyce Anderson of Middlesboro and Sarah Hobbs of Alabama; Berna Onkst of Corbin; and all of his many special friends and colleagues in Corbin.

There was a Celebration of Life Service held at Central Baptist Church, where Alan was a member, on Saturday, July 7, with Rev. Chad Fugitt, Marlon Sams and Joe House officiating.

Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Central Baptist Church.
