Gray man charged with murder in Tuesday stabbing; arraignment scheduled for Thursday

Date:

A Gray man is being held in the Knox County Detention Center in lieu of a $250,000 cash bond after being charged with murder in connection with a late Tuesday afternoon stabbing.

About 5:37 p.m. Tuesday, the Knox County Sheriff’s Department contacted Kentucky State Police Post 10 in Harlan in reference to a stabbing that had occurred at 3925 Highway 1232 in Gray, according to a KSP release.

Troopers and detectives from Post 10 responded and began an investigation.

The initial investigation indicates that a physical altercation occurred between Norman McCreary, 67, and Eric Hibbard, 36, at the McCreary residence.

“Throughout the course of the altercation, Mr. Hibbard brandished a knife and stabbed McCreary several times in the neck and torso,” the release stated.

McCreary suffered fatal injuries. The Knox County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced him deceased.

The body was sent to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsy.

KSP arrested Hibbard charging him with murder.

He was booked into the Knox County Detention Center at 11:37 p.m. Tuesday, according to the detention center’s website.

Hibbard is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning in Knox District Court.

KSP Detective Andy Soltess is leading the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Ambulance Service, Knox County Coroner’s Office, Knox County Sheriff’s Department, and Knox County Child Protective Services.
