Date:

One man is in the hospital and another is in the Knox County Detention Center after state police were called to a Gray residence in response to a complaint of a stabbing Friday night.

Police say the victim, identified as Justin Wilburn had been stabbed seven times, twice in the back and five times in the torso, with a large bladed weapon.

Wilburn was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Police said the accused, identified as 35-year-old Preston Messer of Corbin, fled the scene.

Witnesses reportedly told Trooper Frank Russell that Messer had been using unspecified drugs prior to the assault.

Trooper Russell took Messer into custody about 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the campus of Baptist Health Corbin.

Messer was charged with one count of first-degree assault and remains in custody on a $100,000 cash bond.
