KSP announces graduation of 33 new troopers

On May 2, 33 cadets graduated from the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Training Academy. These troopers will begin their new public safety careers in communities throughout the commonwealth, including five, who will be assigned to KSP Posts covering the local area.

Larico Lee II of Atlanta, Georgia, will be assigned to KSP Post 10 in Harlan, which covers Knox, Bell and Harlan counties. Also assigned to Post 10 are Hank Lockhart of Hinkle, Stevland Simmons of Cumberland and Khalil Slone of Hindman.

KSP Post 10 Captain Danny Caudill welcomed the new troopers to Harlan.

“I am excited to have four new troopers from KSP Cadet Class 105 reporting to Post 10. The addition of these four troopers aid us to better serve the citizens we serve,” Caudill said.

Derek Dennis of Monticello will be assigned to KSP Post

Derek Dennis will be assigned to KSP Post 11 in London.

11 in London, which covers, Whitley, Laurel, McCreary, Clay, Pulaski, Rockcastle and Wayne counties.

KSP Post 11 Captain Ryan Catron welcomed Dennis to London.

“It is always amazing to see new young troopers on the roadways in the London Post area and around the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” Catron said.

Cadet Class 105 arrived at the KSP Academy on Nov. 10, 2024, beginning 24 weeks of demanding instruction and hands-on training required to become a state trooper.

Cadet Class 105 underwent more than 1,000 hours of classroom and field study in subjects, such as constitutional law, juvenile and traffic law, use of force, weapons training, defensive tactics, first aid, high speed vehicle pursuit, criminal investigation, computer literacy, hostage negotiations, evidence collection, radio procedures, search and seizure, crash investigation, drug identification, traffic control, crowd control, armed robbery response, electronic crimes, sex crimes, hate crimes, domestic violence, bomb threats and hazardous materials.

Seventeen cadets earned their associate degree in General Occupational and Technical Studies from the Bluegrass Community and Technical College during their 24-weeks at the training academy, including: Lockhart, Simmons and Slone.
