KSP investigating fatal fire in Lily

Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal fire in Lily Sunday night.

Lily and West Knox firefighters were called to the scene on Sugar Lane off of East Ky. 552 at approximately 7:25 p.m.

Lily Fire Chief Dougie Jones said light smoke was scene coming from brick home when firefighters arrived on the scene.

A neighbor told firefighters that an individual may still be inside and a crew of firefighters conducted a search.

The crew recovered the male subject, later identified as Charles R. Barton, 58, of Lily, who pulled from the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kentucky State Police were notified and have begun an investigation.

Trooper Lloyd Cochran, public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, said Barton’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort where an autopsy was scheduled for Monday.

Detective Ryan Loudermilk is continuing the investigation.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, London-Laurel County Division of Public Safety and the Laurel County Coroner’s Officer also responded to the scene.
