Lady Redhounds open 13th Region Tournament against Knox Central at 6 p.m. Monday

Date:

The Corbin Lady Redhounds will open the 13th Region Tournament at 6 p.m. Monday when they face 51st District Champion Knox Central.

“We knew we were going to have a tough draw coming in as the runner-up,” said Coach Isaac Wilson of facing the Lady Panthers

Corbin won the only meeting between the teams in the regular season at Gilliam Gym on Feb. 15, 65-56.

Kallie Housley led the Lady Redhounds in the win with 19 points. Darcie Anderson had 13 points and Shelby Stewart added 11.

Hallie Collins led Knox Central in the loss with 25 points, adding 13 rebounds on the night for the double-double. Presley Partin added 15.

Wilson said Corbin’s biggest challenge will be limiting Collins’ impact in the game.

“I think that she is a really nice player and she really helps them go,” Wilson said. “They have some really nice guards in (Caylan) Mills and Partin that continue to run the ship for them.”

Knox Central, who is 20-8 on the season, went 5-0 in the 51st District, defeating Barbourville Thursday night for the district title, 77-32.

The Lady Panthers played against two other 50th District opponents.

On Dec. 14, Knox Central won at Whitley County, 61-40.

On Dec. 16, South Laurel pulled out at a 66-65 win at Knox Central.

In addition to Corbin and South Laurel, Knox Central’s other 13th Region loss came at on home Jan. 10 to 52nd District Champion Bell County, 70-56.

The winner of the Corbin/Knox Central game will face the winner of the second game between North Laurel and Harlan County at 6 p.m. Friday.
