Larry Wayne Sawyers I, born December 17, 1953, entered his eternal home on April 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A hardworking man who took immense pride in his family, Wayne lived a life full of devotion, love, and quiet strength.
Wayne is survived by his best friend, Lois Sawyers of Corbin, KY. Together they built a life grounded in faith, family, and unwavering love.
He leaves behind three beloved children, Cathy Hays (Kevin) of Williamsburg, KY, Samantha Melton (Jeremy) of Decatur, AL, and Larry Wayne Sawyers II of Corbin, KY.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Melissa Bundy (John), Alexis Maurer (Maikie), Tayiah Gray (Jaron), Alyssa Sawyers, and Riley Melton — all of whom he cherished deeply.
Wayne was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought joy to his later years, River, Isaiah, Magnolia, Honey, and Lennon Bundy, Nolan and Hermione Maurer, and Kashton Gray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Sawyers and Cleo Inman; his father and mother-in-law, Reverend Barton and Eliza Powers; his son, Curtis Keith Moellmann; his granddaughter, Whitney Sawyers; and his great-grandson, Hardin Wayne Bundy.
Wayne’s love for life was evident in the way he cared for his yard, his home, and most of all, his family. He never missed an opportunity to show his love, and his presence was a source of warmth and strength for all who knew him. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and he made sure they knew it every single day.
Wayne also leaves behind a host of family and dear friends who will miss him dearly. The world has lost a bright light, and his family will feel the absence of their beloved patriarch every day.
Funeral service were Friday April 25, at Ellison Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Huddleston officiating. Interment was in the Sawyers Cemetery.
