Lela Oshie Petrey, age 97, of Williamsburg, KY, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023 at her home.
She was born July 27, 1925 in Whitley County, KY to the late Jay and Odie Meadors Hamblin.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dempsey Petrey; two sons, Bobby Joe Petrey, and Homer Edward Petrey; grandson George Martin Jr.; two sisters, Reba Richmond, and Anna White; six brothers, Johnny Hamblin, Charlie Hamblin, Letcher Hamblin, Ernest Hamblin, John “Ernie” C. Hamblin, and Virgil Hamblin.
She is survived by six children, Margaret “Peg” Ellis (James) of Williamsburg, KY, Tommy Petrey (Nola) of Williamsburg, KY, Helen Cox (Joe) of Williamsburg, KY, Theresa Young (Tim) of London, KY, Kay Petrey of Williamsburg, KY, Rita Petrey of Williamsburg, KY; 18 grandchildren, Joyce Reeves, Darrell Ellis, Jennifer Rider, Darren Petrey, Tony Petrey, Jeff Petrey, April Pennington, Zack Elza, Dewey Scalf, Amy Crawford, Robbie Poynter, Bobby Poynter, Christy Housley, James Housley, Brandon Robinson, Chris Petrey, Mike Petrey, and Shawna Meadors; several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mildred Petrey of Williamsburg, KY; one sister, Faye Keck of TN; several nieces, nephews; and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral service was Sunday, January 15, at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Meadors and Rev. Dorman Patrick officiating. Interment was in the Petrey Family Cemetery.
