Local Silver Star recipient leaves behind family legacy of honor, service

Before he was a veteran employee at Whayne Supply, or a veteran student at the University of the Cumberlands, Corbin native Gary Keith Harris was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army

The 68-year-old Harris, who died Jan. 27, served one tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969. While serving with the 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Harris was awarded the Army’s Silver Star medal for actions he took while his company was in combat near Go Rieng
