The Lynn Camp High School Boys’ Basketball Team is looking for a new head coach after locker room videos recently surfaced on social media showing the coach cursing at the team multiple times.
The Lynn Camp Middle/High School Facebook page released a statement by head coach Tyler Wagner Wednesday afternoon announcing his immediate resignation.
The letter starts with Wagner apologizing for a recent video that has been made public, which was recorded last year at the beginning of the Fall 2023 season.
“The language that I used in this video is not acceptable in any manner. I allowed the competitive environment to get the best of me and for that I am truly sorry. I have fully accepted that what I did was not right, and I pledge to do better. I am not perfect, nor have I ever claimed to be,” Wagner wrote in the statement.
“I want to apologize to my players that were in the locker room, the parents of those players and to the student body of Lynn Camp High School. I am truly sorry that you had to hear that and be part of this controversy. My actions were not acceptable, my language was not acceptable, and I need to be a better example if I am going to be a head coach or mentor for my players. I am stepping away as the Head Coach of Lynn Camp Boys’ Basketball, resigning effective immediately and I plan to work on myself and on becoming a better representative for my school, my family and the kids at our great school.”
During his only season as Lynn Camp’s head coach last year, Wagner’s team went 8-20 with their season ending with a loss to Pineville in the 51st District Tournament on Feb. 28.
Lynn Camp’s first game of the new season is set to tip off on Dec. 2 with a home opener against Owsley County.
