Man dies in accident on I-75 near Williamsburg Sunday

Date:

A late night accident near the 12 mile-marker of Interstate 75 left one man dead and traffic backed into the early morning hours Monday.

Police say an unidentified Tennessee man was traveling in the north-bound in a late model Dodge king cab pickup truck when he apparently lost control, sliding into the median and eventually coming to rest on the south bound
lane. A travel trailer, which was being pulled by the truck, lay in the median nearly disintegrated still attached to the truck.

Crews worked for several hours to clear the wreckage as south-bound traffic was diverted from I-75 exit 15 through Williamsburg. North-bound traffic moved slowly through the scene as one lane was opened for traffic about an hours after the accident.

Witnesses at the scene said the man was unresponsive when they approached the vehicle in an attempt to help him and anyone else in the vehicle. After further inspection, it was determined the man was traveling alone.

The driver of the truck is yet to be identified, but as soon as more information is made available, the News Journal will pass it along via our Website.

Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Lawson is investigating the crash. Assisting at the scene were Three-Point Fire Department, Williamsburg Fire and Rescue, Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police and Whitley County EMS.
