Police find booze, pills, pot in Corbin woman’s car following DUI crash Monday

Date:

Karrie McGuire was driving this GMC Sonoma truck up Queen Hill in Corbin when she crashed Monday evening. Police suspect drug and alcohol use as factors in the crash. Below, two beer cans are easily seen in the vehicle’s center console.

A Corbin woman has been charged with DUI and other drug-related offenses following a single-vehicle traffic crash on Queen Hill Monday evening.

According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Michelle Lunsford, Karrie McGuire was traveling up Queen Hill (Cherry Ave.) toward Corbin when her GMC Sonoma dropped off the roadway, struck a rotten tree, rammed into an embankment and section of fencing, then overturned on its side.

"Alcohol and drugs were a factor," Lunsford said. "There were open Budweiser containers in the vehicle. Also some narcotics and marijuana was found inside."

Bystanders say McGuire was partially ejected from the truck during the crash. She was lying halfway out the driver’s side window when the truck rolled on top of her. Three Good Samaritans were able to lift the truck and unpin her from the beneath the wreckage.

McGuire had a significant gash to the side of her head, witnesses said, but claimed she was unharmed. She told volunteer firefighters and others that she wasn’t driving the vehicle but that another woman, named "April" was actually driving and ran off shortly after the crash. Witnesses who sprung into action to help moments after the accident occurred said the vehicle had no other occupant besides McGuire.

Two cans of Budweiser beer, one opened and at least partially consumed, and the other unopened, were visible in the cupholder of the center console. Lunsford said she recovered numerous bottles of prescription narcotics from the truck prescribed to various individuals.

McGuire was transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was cited to court by Kentucky State Police.
That accident happened at around 6:45 p.m. Monday.
