Senior pedestrian dies after being struck by two vehicles Monday

Date:

A London man died after being struck by two vehicles late Monday evening near Lily.

Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling pronounced Edward E. Queen, 87, deceased from fatal injuries, according to a Laurel County Sheriff’s Department release.

The accident happened about 9:10 p.m. about six and one-half miles south of London on US25.

Investigators report that apparently the pedestrian was struck in the northbound lane after he entered the travel lane in front of a Ford Expedition, which was driven by Kenneth Woods, 45, of London, according to the release.

A Hyundai Sonota, which was driven by Samantha Swift, 44, of Frankfort, was directly behind the Expedition, and then apparently also struck Queen, the release stated.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County transported Queen to St. Joseph Hospital in London where Bowling pronounced him deceased a short time later.

Neither Woods nor Swift were injured.

The roadway was shut down for about three hours as deputies investigated.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective/Accident Reconstructionist Brad Mink is the primary investigator. He was assisted by Laurel County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Reeves, shift Sgt. Allen Turner, shift Sgt. Robert Reed, Deputy Cyrus McVay, Deputy Justin Lewis, Deputy Matt Walker, Deputy Daniel Reed and Deputy Zach Allen.

Other agencies assisting at the scene and on the investigation included: the Laurel County Coroner’s Office, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Lily Fire and Rescue, London – Laurel County Rescue Squad, and the Kentucky Department of Highways.

The investigation is continuing.
