Three local drivers were awarded sponsorships through the Rod Carter Jr. Memorial Foundation, in memory of Rod Carter Jr., on June 21 at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Rockholds.
The Carter Family created the Rod Carter Jr. Memorial Foundation to keep Carter’s memory alive. Carter had dedicated his life to the racing sport. His family planned to keep local dirt racing alive, hoping to involve kids and offer support.
“Through this foundation, we hope to keep his spirit alive by supporting local racers,” the Carter Family said, adding, “Seeing these drivers carry his name and legacy forward means the world to us, and we know he would be so proud.”
The three drivers were chosen for sponsorship due to their passion and dedication, which truly honor Carter’s legacy.
The sponsored drivers were:
- Dalton Brown, 11, from Crab Orchard, who started in go-karts and moved up to dirt late models in 2017, was awarded $5,000.
- Brandon Mullis, 40, from Woodbine, who began attending Corbin Speedway as a pre-teen to watch Rod Carter Jr. and others, was awarded $2,100.
- Nolan Meadors, 18, from Williamsburg, who just started his first full season behind the wheel, was awarded $2,100.
