Senior Kenny Kysar drove in junior Josh Ware in the bottom of the 8th to tie the score with the Rockcastle County Rockets at 4-4 then scored on back to back errors in leading the Redhounds to a big win over their 13th region rivals.
The teams went into an extra inning tied at 3-3. Corbin missed on a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh when Tom Watkins was called out at the plate when he attempted to steal home.
The Rockets (7-4) took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 8th then battled from behind the win. Ware opened the home half of the inning with a double. He went to third on a Hobe Watkins sacrifice to rightfield.
Kysar then drove in Ware and assured the home folks of at least another inning. Jake McDaniel followed with a grounder to second. A hesitation by the Rockets second baseman, Colby Brown, forced an error in the infield as both Kysar and McDaniel were safe at their respective bases.
Josh Hamlin, on the mound for the Redhounds, hit into another error that allowed Kysar to score the winning run.
The Rockets didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard as they posted two runs in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead. Nick Williams and Ronnie McClure scored for the Rockets.
Corbin answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs as Ware walked then went to third on a Watkins double. The two runners then scored as Kysar followed with a two-base hit.
Corbin took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second when Lucas Henson singled. He stole second then scored on a Chance Hendrickson double.
The Rockets tied the game in the top of fifth when Hamlin came in the game, replacing Clint Cashen on the mound.
“I thought both pitchers did a good job considering they were both young,” said Corbin coach Jeff Garmon. “We played well on defense and didn’t make any errors.
Garmon said the win over Rockcastle “was just another game.”
“It’s a big rivalry but it didn’t mean any more than a district game would,” he added. But, it was a good win.”
•The Redhounds ended their trip to Florida with a pair of losses. They lost to Fort Walton Beach High School Thursday 5-2 then lost to Lexington Lafayette Friday, 5-1.
Lafayette, the number two ranked team in Kentucky, scored solo runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth to take the win over Corbin.
Henson suffered the loss to the Generals while Jake Mahan took the loss to Fort Walton.
