Tuesday Night Highlights: Continuing coverage of volleyball and soccer district tournaments

Date:

As reported in the October 10 edition of the News Journal, the Corbin Lady Hounds were set to square off against South Laurel at Williamsburg High School Tuesday night with a 50th District championship title on the line.

In the end, it was Corbin who came away with the thrilling 3-2 win (25-23, 22-25, 26-28, 25-18, 15-12) to improve to 29-7 on the year. With the loss, South drops to 29-6 overall. Both teams will now advance to the 2018 13th Region tournament, which is scheduled to kickoff this Saturday at Corbin High School. Be sure to look inside next week’s print edition for more details.

In soccer action Tuesday, the Whitley County Lady Colonels fell to North Laurel 10-0 at Corbin Primary School, ending their season with an 8-6-1 record just one step away from a first-ever appearance in a 13th Region tournament.

In the late game at Corbin Primary, the Corbin Lady Hounds were also eliminated from this year’s 49th District tourney, falling to South Laurel 2-0. The Corbin girls end their season with a 2-15 overall record.

The Corbin boys soccer team is scheduled to play their semifinal round game against Oneida Baptist Institute Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. A win in that contest would advance the Hounds to the championship game Thursday, and earn them a spot in next week’s region tournament.
