W’burg Christmas decorating contest winners, parade float winners announced

Bragging rights for who has the best Christmas decorations in Williamsburg have been determined, and for the first time in four years there is a new best decorated neighborhood in Williamsburg.

On Saturday night after the Feels Like Home Christmas Parade, Mayor Roddy Harrison announced the winners of the 20th Annual Williamsburg Christmas Decorating Contest.

“Thank you to all, who participated,” Harrison said.

Decorating Contest

In the residential division, Sunshine Valley broke the Denham Addition’s three-year reign as the best decorated residential neighborhood. Sunshine Valley previously took the title for best decorated neighborhood in 2022.

In the residential traditional category, Sarah Beth and Noah Ingle of North 10th Street won the award for the second consecutive year.

Melissa Foley of South Third Street, who won the award for best residential entryway last year, took home the award in the modern traditional category this year.

Bill and Vickie Hollen of Front Street won the award for best entryway.

This year’s Spirit of Christmas award went to Dennis and Charlotte Vanover of North 10th Street.

In the residential bling bling category – think National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – there was a new winner this year as Greg and Darlene Hays of John Street and Randy and Carol Ball of Main Street tied.

Jim Blankenship of Rains Street took home the prize last year.

Randy and Carol Ball won the award in 2022 and in nine out of the prior 11 years. Greg and Darlene Hays won it in 2021.

In the business division, Maiden Drug took first place in the best business window décor category for the fourth consecutive year. Face Lab took second place followed by Associates in Eyecare in third place.

Southern Tease took first place honors in the business outdoor décor category with Gene Siler Law Office finishing in second place and the Whitley County Board of Education coming in third.

Parade Float Contest

Winners have also been announced for best floats in this year’s parade.

In the school category, the Williamsburg FFA won first place, followed by Whitley County High School in second place and the Whitley County Volleyball Team in third place.

In the business category, the Whitley County Detention Center took first place. Walmart took second place, and “Goat Farmer” took third place.

In the church category, Jellico Creek Baptist Church won first place, followed by First Baptist Church of Williamsburg in second place, and Bethany’s Hope in third place.
