A Williamsburg couple is behind bars after police discovered a methamphetamine lab at Brush Arbor Apartments late Tuesday afternoon.
Williamsburg police charged Jamie L. Thomas, 33, and Amy R. Thomas, 32, with first-offense manufacture of methamphetamine, and lodged them in the Whitley County Detention Center where they are being held in lieu of $50,000 cash bonds.
Jamie Thomas was also charged with giving an officer a false name and violation of a Kentucky Emergency Protective Order.
About 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Williamsburg Police Department got a call from the Williamsburg Housing Authority in reference to a possible meth lab, which was discovered in an outside storage unit behind apartment 657 Brush Arbor, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird said in a press release.
"Upon the officers arrival at the apartment, Jamie L. Thomas fled out the back door into the woods where he was apprehended by officers on the scene. Officers then discovered a one-step met lab in the storage unit located behind Apartment 657," Bird wrote.
The Laurel County Division of Public Safety was contacted to remove the hazardous material.
Officer Brandon White is the lead investigator, and was assisted by Assistant Chief Rick Mosley, Lt. Jason Caddell, and K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt with is partner, Rico.
