WCHS JROTC honors veterans with ceremonies

Date:

Members of the Whitley County JROTC did their part to salute veterans during a Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning outside the Whitley County Courthouse.

The ceremony included the presentation of the colors, a 21-gun salute in honor of those killed in the line of duty, and the playing of taps.

The Whitley County High School JROTC presented a second ceremony in honor of veterans killed in the line of duty Tuesday morning outside the high school in the Dwayne Bunch Courtyard of Champions.

Bunch’s widow, 82nd. Rep. Regina Bunch, helped place a wreath in the courtyard along with WWII veteran Gillis Clawson.

Also on the display in the Courtyard of Champions Tuesday were 242 crosses bearing the names of every Whitley County service member killed in the line of duty starting with Jessie Davis, who died in the war of 1845, going all the way through Lance Corporal Timothy Jackson, who was the last Whitley County service member, who was killed in the line of duty.

All 242 names are displayed on a memorial, which is located outside the Whitley County Courthouse.
