Whitley County has third highest COVID-19 incidence rate in state

The Whitley County Health Department announced 27 new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed on Tuesday.

Four of the cases were children.

As of Tuesday, there were 215 active cases in Whitley County.

The county’s vaccination rate was at 39.2 percent.

Baptist Health Corbin officials announced Monday, Oct. 11, that in the nine Baptist Health Hospitals, 270 individuals are receiving inpatient care at the hospitals, 57 of which were fully vaccinated.

The nine hospitals have a total of 58 patients in ICU and 42 are on ventilators.

According to the daily state COVID-19 report, a total of 2,358 new cases were reported Tuesday along with 34 new COVID related deaths.

Whitley County has the third highest incidence rate in the commonwealth with a rate of 81.9.

Mercer and Pendleton counties exceed Whitley County’s rate with a rate of 90.5 and 83.2 respectively.

Knox County comes in with a rate of 51.4, and Laurel County has a rate of 31.7.

Morgan County has the lowest rate in the commonwealth at 9.7.
