After he was caught trying to shoplift a tool set from Tri-County Industrial Supply, Ryan S. Brock of Corbin tried to evade Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies by running to his truck and locking himself inside.

According to Public Affairs Officer Gilbert Acciardo, Sgt. Josh Gaylor was called to the store on U.S. 25E in North Corbin about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday in response to a shoplifting complaint.

Witnesses told deputies that when employees confronted Brock, 37, about the theft, he pushed one employee to the ground and hit another with a hammer before running out through the back of the building.

Gaylor arrived on scene as Brock ran through the parking lot and chased him toward Brock’s pickup truck. Brock tried to the lock the door, but Gaylor stopped him and took him into custody.

Brock was charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree fleeing or evading police and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
